We had a busy week in 1st Grade! Our UVM students treated us to another puppet show that was all about seeds. We celebrated Halloween with fun goody bags and pumpkin decorating!
Friday Letter books came home this week. Please make sure that you check your child’s bag for the notebook and write a quick message back to them. They really look forward to your reply!
This week in 1st Grade we:
Worked on a new reading strategy- Chunky Monkey, looking for chunks we know in words
Worked to isolate vowel sounds in CVC words
Sequenced and acted out stories
Worked on quick double facts 1-10 (a puzzle came home to practice)
Worked on leaving spaces between our words when writing
Practiced new sight words- was, said, that, from, like, look
Practiced the counting on strategy for addition
Learned about Vegetable Farms and how they help our community
Here is what is on deck for next week. We will:
Introduce digraphs ch, sh, th,wh, ph
Add endings to our narrative stories
Practice that vowels make 2 sounds, a long and a short
Work more in our small groups on reading fluency
Have a Social Studies lesson taught by our UVM students
Work on subtraction fluency with the counting back strategy
Attend a virtual Author Visit
