Hat Day Celebration!

Our RES students have earned Hat Day for showing expected behavior! Students could bring in a hat from home to wear today at school, but we didn't stop there! Our class designed and made our own hats too! We even read books about hats. Our learners really showed their creativity!

Sprouting Our Bean Seeds

First Graders are learning all about plants!  Learners explored different types of seeds and created sprout houses for their seeds to germinate in!  They learned all the parts of a seed including food storage, seed coat, and the little plant or embryo!  Today students checked in on their little sprouts.  They are hanging in our window.  Ask your child how their little sprout is doing!

Catching The Breeze- How Gliders Fly

We have been learning all about how people can use ideas from nature to make new things. We studied how seeds travel, by gliding, spinning or twirling away from the tree or plant.  Using this knowledge, we spent time designing our own gliders with the idea of how seeds travel.  We created many adaptations to them help the gliders improve their flight.  Today we wrapped up our unit by building foam gliders and taking them for test flights!  We tried some with propellers and some without.  We also tested if the wind changed their flight pattern.

How Do Seeds Travel?

First Graders are learning all about the way seeds travel.  Students got the chance to engineer models of three different kinds of seed travelers.  It was so much fun to see how the different shapes moved through the air.
