Today our first graders got a special visit from Mr.Berry. He stopped by to let them know how proud he was of their amazing reading! We read 50 HOURS at home! 1st grade scholars were already celebrating by wearing pajamas and bringing a stuffed friend to school. To help us celebrate, Mr. Berry read us Skeleton Hiccups. Then we created our own skeletons. Each learner got a chance to write how they would help the skeleton get rid of his hiccups! They came up with some pretty creative ways! Our next reading goal is 120 hours!

Today we shared our tech projects we created using SHAPE software in the computer lab. Each student designed a pattern for others students to try and fill. Learners created their unique design, filled it on the computer, and then printed their work. Next, students traded designs and tried to build them with real pattern blocks. They used the printed designs as a map as they reconstructed the image with real pattern blocks! Their creativity and indenpence with this project was simply amazing.
This student is solving the picture from the above computer screen.

Today our first graders shared their stories with our kindergarteners! These stories capture a small moment in their lives. What an amazing job they did! Learners worked to sound fluent with their stories and hold the interest of their audience!
First graders invited grown ups from around our school to listen to their stories. Each learner got a chance to practice reading their story to a grown up. This was so important because today we are reading our stories to the Kindergateners! We are so excited to share our "Small Moment" narratives with them . A special thank you to all the staff that came in to hear our stories!

Today our first graders are making pumpkin pie in the crock pot! It is the first time we've ever tried baking in our crock pot.
Each student selected a job card to help make our pumpkin pie. We worked together to add, mix and pour the pie into the crock. Check back in a few hours for the tasting!

What an exciting trip our first grade class took to Whitcomb Farm this morning. We learned about the life cycle of the pumpkin and some of the many varieties grown in the farm. We got an up close look at the giant pumpkins! We even measured one! After measuring the pumpkin we used the size to estimate the weigh, 321lbs! That's a lot of pumpkin! We finished our field trip by exploring the corn maze! Thank you to all the parents that were able to help out this morning! We couldn't have done it without you!
