Bus Info

The bus garage has asked that all Chittenden East schools write physical 911 addresses on bus passes to assist bus drivers in knowing where students are going. In order to make this process easier for the office, we are asking that parents use the attached form, which can also be found on the website, or on social media sites, or make sure to include this information on notes sent into school. We appreciate your assistance.

We Read 100 Hours!!

We did it! We read 100 hours.  To celebrate, we had Smoothie and a Movie Day!
Our students enjoyed healthy smoothies and watched Curious George Welcomes Spring!  Mr. Berry stopped by to to say congratulations!  We are so proud of our first graders!

Stayed tuned... 150 hours is next!

Exploring Force and Motion

Thursday our scholars tackled the question, "How does something's weight affect how easily it can be moved?

Students were given to opportunity to test a variety of balls by blowing through a straw and measuring how far they moved . They discovered how important a "fair test" is for accurate data.  First Graders used their findings and discovered the lighter the ball, the further is moved!  Our young scientists were amazing!

Sharing Our Books

On Friday we had the opportunity to share our nonfiction books that we have been working so hard on. Our first graders headed down to  Mrs. Gilbar's room and read our stories to the kindergarteners.   We are so proud of our learners! They not only read their amazing stories, but they also inspired the kindergarteners to start writing their own nonfiction books!

Leo Lionni Inspired Illustrations

Our first graders are learning about author and illustrator Leo Lionni. They loved that he was born in Holland and that his mother let him keep his room a mess! She even allowed frogs, mice and other creatures he found in the wild to live in his room! These creatures inspired many of his characters.   Leo Lionni would often tear paper to create his animals instead of cutting. He thought this made the edges look more like real animal fur! Here are a few of our pieces. They are hanging in our classroom!

Missing Addend Problems

First graders are busy using their math brains!  Students are working to solve problems with a missing addend! We start by playing math games where students know the whole and one part.  They challenge each other to figure out the missing part.  Today we took our thinking to the next level by working with missing addend word problems.
