Circus Time in PE and Opinion Writing!

Learning highlights from the week:

MathFirst graders have been working on measuring using both standard and non standard units.  Today they worked with a partner to measure themselves to see how tall they were.

Second graders have been working on adding and subtracting 10’s and 100’s to numbers over 100.

Example:

Number

10 Less

10 More

100 Less

100 More

186

176

196

86

286

403

393

413

303

503

Students have been building these numbers with place value blocks to give them a concrete model.  The goal is to be able to have students do this computation without the use of concrete models.

Reading- Our word work this week centered around r controlled vowels and longer blends. We are also working on character traits both physical and non-physical.

Writing- We started Friday letters back up yesterday! Our learners were excited to send home a letter! We are also working on opinion writing! This week we learned the difference between a fact and an opinion.

Mindfulness-  The unit on optimism continues through the end of March. I am optimistic that this weather will soon bring us warmer days and sunny skies.
