Dr. Seuss Meets Force Motion- Cool Tech Tool

First Graders are learning about Dr. Seuss throughout all subject areas! We started our Dr. Seuss author study after returning from our winter break.  Learners discovered many facts about Ted Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss.  Did you know Ted Geisel grew up spending many hours at a local zoo?  Many of those animals inspired the creatures in our favorite Dr. Seuss stores.  Our class created a biography poster of our favorite Dr. Seuss facts.

In addition to learning about Ted Geisel's life, were are also working on learning about force and motion.  We have learned that a force is a push or a pull.  We played an A-Maze-ing game on the Dr. Seuss website called Seussville.  To play the game you must use fans, springs, or conveyor belts to push or pull your green egg to the ham. Learners could choose to start on the over easy level or jump right in and try hard boiled.
It was exciting to see our learners experiment with the pushes and pulls on the computers.  The A-maze-ing Green Eggs & Ham is a great online tool for students to try lots of pushes and pulls and see the impact.

Science Writing - Force and Motion

First Graders are natural scientists! We all know how much they like to ask questions! Our new writing unit is all about science writing!  Students are learning all about writing lab report.  They are using the scientific method to support their questions and experiments.  Today we questioned does the weight of a ball change how easily a ball can be moved?  Ask your child to share their prediction and conclusion from their experiment.
