Collect 20!

Today or first grade mathematicians played a game called Collect 20! Partners worked together to roll  dice and add on to their total. The goal was to work together to Collct 20 items.  Counting is a great way to help support a strong adding and subtracting foundation.  Try having your child count things around your home like pasta pieces, stones, or even Legos!

On The Hunt!

First graders explored our RES and CHMS Community Garden today!  We looked up close at our milkweed plants searching for monarch caterpillars. Milkweed is the only food monarch caterpillars eat!  Please take a minute to see if there is any milkweed near your home.  Ask your child why we call the plant milkweed!

Our 1st Graders Are Mathematicians!

Today in first grade students explored our math manipulatives.  Each table had the opportunity to use pattern blocks, unifix cubes, geoblocks, and power polygons.  These are tools we use throughout our first grade year.  The manipulates  help us to better understand addition and subtraction strategies, shape attributes, and ordinal numbers.
