Learning highlights from the week:

 Math-  First graders are busy adding and subtracting using place value concepts.  This work helps solidify place value which is so critical in second grade.   Second graders have been working on subtraction of 2 digit numbers.  This is a challenging skill and one we will be working on for a while.  

Reading-   Students have been getting back into the swing of reading this week after a week off.  Some students are working with silent “e” and others are working on “oy” and “oi” sounds.   

Writing-We are working on our last opinion writing piece! Students are writing a review of their favorite book. Some students selected a book from home. If that is the case, would you please send the book in for the next week or so. 

 Mindfulness-  May’s theme during mindfulness is perseverance.  We will be talking about how to keep going, even when work is difficult.
