Welcome to the 23-24 school year! We have had an amazing first week of school filled with lots of fun and learning. We worked on some projects to make our room feel like our own, we made magic bracelets, and we spent time outside. I can already tell it’s going to be a great year!
Below are some highlights of the week:
Communication:
Our Nature Cat newsletter will be emailed home every week. If you have a question or concern please feel free to call or email us anytime. If you send an email to us after 4:30 we will try our best to get back to you by the end of the next school day!
Home Folders: Home folders will go home everyday. Please help your students to remember to clean them out each evening and return them the next day.
Learning highlights from the week:
Math- First and second graders got a chance to meet their math groups, explore some math tools and play some games. Some students change teachers for math while others keep their classroom teacher.
Literacy- Students began their literacy time by exploring picture books. Picture books are often ignored by early readers thinking they’re ‘baby books”, when in fact picture books are some of the highest quality literature there is for children. They are full of wonderful vocabulary, rich story lines and well developed characters. They are a wonderful tool for building comprehension skills.
Celebrations- We enjoyed getting to know each other this week! We went on 2 scavenger hunts, one inside the school and one in the outdoor classrooms. We also started our geology unit, read Rhoda’s Rock Hunt, and made rock carains.
