Science in Action!!

 

Our students love science!  We had an AMAZING time designing beach umbrellas using ideas from trees.  Students were able to make adjustments and then test their ideas with our homemade wind! Students gave each other ideas and supported one another.  We will continue with more science activities this week.

This week our 1st Graders worked on:

• Beginning and Ending Blends

• Editing our nonfiction books

• Learned about looking for friendly numbers when adding 3 numbers

• Explored using ideas from nature to improve our designs

• Worked on our science engineering task

• Learned more about self regulation

• Explored the cafeteria and learned the expectations

Next week we will:

• Learn more ending blends

• Publish our nonfiction books

• Learn more about equivalent equations

• Learn more from our UVM interns

• Have our first lunch in the cafeteria!!!

• Learn about mental images and how it helps with reading comprehension

March Adventures in 1st Grade!

 

This week we worked on:

• Beginning Blends- a game made by your student went home on Wednesday. 

• Missing Addend Problems in Math

• Reading and Writing 3-Digit Numbers

• Writing Conclusions for our Animal Books

• Learned all about animal camouflage

• Learned more ways to self-regulate our bodies

• Nurse Hadley came in and taught us about Fire Safety and reviewed playground safety

Next week we will focus on:

• Ending blends during word work

• Add a table of contents and a glossary to our nonfiction animal books

• Adding 3 numbers in an efficient way

• Use doubles and partners of 10 to make adding more efficient

• Learn about biomimicry and how we can use ideas from nature 

• Our UVM interns teaching more lessons on self regulation and animal adaptations

• Nurse Hadley will teach our last health lesson for the year

Welcome Back Fun

What a great week back at school!  We had amazing weather at Cochran’s and had a fantastic time! We are enjoying moving seats and being able to use our rug for stories again! 

Here are the highlights from our short week:

• Fantastic skiing and riding at Cochran’s

• Started a new math unit focusing on computation

• Practiced sight words that we have been working on

• Wrote new sections on our animal reports

• Practiced kindness! Ask your learner about bucket filling!

• Learned that we are the boss of our own reading!  If you see a word you don’t know, Stop and try a strategy to solve it!

Next week we will:

• Start beginning blends with phonics

• Add new sight words

• Work on selecting the most efficient strategy to solve the math problem

• Continue with social lessons on kindness and self regulation

• Add more time to our read to self to help build our stamina

• Start our Health lessons with Nurse Hadley
