First Cochran's Adventure of the Year and More!

 

This week was full of adventures!  We had our first trip of the year to Cochran’s and learned many new things!

Here are the highlights from our week.

We learned:


  • To use an uppercase letter at the beginning of a sentence and end it with punctuation

  • Look for the author’s main point in a text

  • Learned about comparisons and how they help the reader understand

  • To use nonstandard measurement tools 

  • To compare items by length and find the difference

  • Added the trick words by, my, try and why to our word wall


Next week we will:

  • Continue to work on sentence structure and adding details

  • Select and animal and start our research project

  • Learn more about telling time and add time to the ½ hour

  • Celebrate the 100th Day of School on 2/2/22

  • Start our math unit on basic fractions 

  • Work on making our voices sound smooth when we read

Adventures From 1/18/22-1/21/22

 

Here is a recap of our week.

This week our 1st Graders learned:

  • How a table of contents helps the reader navigate a nonfiction text

  • About animal traits and how they help them to survive

  • Read nonfiction books by author Steve Jenkins

  • How to measure with a ruler in addition to nonstandard units of measurement

  • Compared items by length and width

  • Learned to tell time to the hour



Next week we will:

  • Start our nonfiction animal research project

  • Begin to use PebbleGO- an emergent reader database

  • Add more word families to our phonics and spelling routine

  • Learn how to retell a nonfiction text

  • Learn to look for the author’s main point 

  • Learn to compare measurements and find the difference

  •  Go to Cochran’s on Friday

Welcome Back! Week of 1/3-1/7

 

Here are the highlights from our week.

This week we:

  • Had a fun Virtual Morning Meeting with all our students both at home and in school

  • Started a new unit on nonfiction texts

  • Learned that baby animals are similar but not exactly like their parents

  • Counted to high numbers with counting strips

  • Added the ng family to our spelling and phonics work


Next week we will:

  • Learn how nonfiction text features help the reader understand

  • Learn the differences between fiction and nonfiction texts 

  • Start a new writing unit - a nonfiction piece on a favorite animal

  • Learn that animals have traits that help them survive

  • Recognize and write 3 digit numbers

  • Use patterns in the 120 chart to help us solve problems
