Our First Graders are loving our geometry unit. Today we used a variety of shapes to build a bat. Students used circles, squares, rectangles and many sizes of triangles to construct a flying bad. Then we used oil pastels to create a night scene.

Our Fantastic Brains
Today First Graders learned all about our brains! They are pretty amazing. We read the book My Fantastic Elastic Brain by JoAnn Deak. We learned what different parts of our brain do and how we can exercise our brain to help it grow.
Then students had a chance to play with stretchy brain slime. They also got an opportunity to create brain hats that showed the different parts of our brain.

Storytime From Space
We are still learning all about space, the sun, the moon and patterns we see in our sky. First Graders are fascinated by space facts and learning amazing things about our universe. The International Space Station has a great site for kids called StoryTime From Space! Astronauts read children's books from the International Space Station. Children can watch the stories online with a view of the earth passing by! We heard Max Goes To the Moon, read to us by Astronaut Mike Hopkins!
They update the site quite regularly! Check out the stories online!

Star Bright, Start Light!
We are continuing to learn all about space. Today our focus was on stars! Your astronomer knows a lot about stars! Ask them what kind of star our sun is! Today we talked about when stars are visible. We did an experiment and made pretend stars. We projected them on paper. We blocked them with hands and paper, like clouds might block them at night. Then we also turned on the lights. They saw that the stars were still there, we just couldn't see them because is was so light. Stay tuned for more facts about space coming your way!
