Partner Reading, Coding and More!

Learning highlights from the week:

MathFirst graders are working to use Scratch Jr. to code their own word problems.  They add code to a scene that represents their problem.  We will be sharing them with each other this week!  Second graders have started a new numeracy unit.  The goals of this unit are to fluently add & subtract within 100 by applying place value strategies and to expand their understanding of place value and powers of 10 to add and subtract within 1000.

Reading-   We have been working on understanding story elements.  This week we used the book A Pig Parade is a Terrible Idea!  We talked about the problem in the text and then the solution.

Writing- We are continuing to work on our persuasive writing unit.  This week we wrote about our favorite TV show or movie.

Mindfulness-  We continue to talk a lot about respect for self and others, and how to keep our bodies in the “green zone” during the school day.  The “green zone” is when we are regulated and our prefrontal cortex is able to function at its best, helping us to be good thinkers and learners.
