Celebrating Our Writing and Adventures From 11/15-11/19

 


Here are the highlights from our week:  

This week we:


  • Celebrated our writing with an Author Share!  

  • Worked on math problems with both addends unknown and how to find all the solutions.

  • Read and spelled words with digraphs at the beginning and end of the word

  • Finished up our personal narratives and sent the home

  • Learned about the process of Dairy Farming and then made our own butter

  • Continued to work on reading stamina and pushing through when things are hard

  • Learned that reading isn’t just reading the words, it’s also thinking about those words too


After vacation we will:

  • Learn blended sounds

  • Add new reading strategies

  • Work on automaticity with partners to 10

  • Solve problems with 3 addends

  • Learn new mapping skills and cardinal directions 

  • Learn our home address 

  • Start a new mapping unit as we pretend to travel around the world learning how people around the world celebrate in December

First Grade Fun from 11/8-11/12

Our reading challenge is off to a great start.  We already have 6 hours of reading towards our 60 hour goal!


Here are the highlights from our week. This week we:

  • Have 6 hours of reading towards our 60 hour goal

  • Worked with ending digraph sounds sh, ch, ph, th, ck

  • Edited our personal narratives and have started the publishing process

  • Learned the reading strategy of trying both vowel sounds 

  • Used our clay vegetables and created our own farm to market playset

  • Started our Dairy in the Classroom Program

  • Learned to solve missing addend problems


Here is a sneak peek of what we will be doing next week:

We will be:

  • Learning the parts of a sentence

  • Practice trying more than one reading strategy when solving an unknown word 

  • Finish our personal narratives and share them

  • Solve word problems with both addends unknown. Finding all combinations of a number.

  • Complete our second lesson with Dairy in the Classroom

  • Working on story sequencing and looking at close details

Adventures from 11/1-11/5

What a busy week we had! 


Here are the highlights from our week:

This week in 1st Grade we:

  • Introduced the digraph sounds sh, ch, wh, th, ph

  • Sent home snap words we are learning

  • Added endings to our personal narratives

  • Learned more about the buy, produce, sell cycle on a farm

  • Created clay vegetables for a pretend farmer’s market

  • Worked on the subtraction strategy counting back

  • Looked closely at our number and letter formation to make sure they are going in the correct direction

  • Made text to self connections with our reading

  • Added more books to our reading pouches for home to school reading



Next week will:

  • Finish up our personal narratives

  • Work on the reading strategy of trying both sounds a vowel can make in the word

  • Add ending digraph ck to our phonics lessons

  • Introduce missing addend problems in math

  • Start our Reading at Home challenge!

  • Introduce Dairy Farming and the process of how we get dairy products

  • Our UVM student teachers will share another lesson with us.
