All School Morning Meeting and More

 Learning highlights from the week:

Math

First graders- Are starting a new place value unit. This will focus on adding and subtracting groups of 10 from any number within 120.

Second gradersSecond graders are learning all about measurement. We will be using both standard and non standard units to measure.  In addition second graders will use measurement to compare distances through word problems.

Reading-

Students are learning about problem/solution and the author's purpose this week.  A favorite that we read this week was The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss.  We had a wonderful discussion about the problem in this book.  Students are making amazing text to self connections.

Writing-

We read the book It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles Shaw.  Students then made their own “Spilt Milk” paintings and used their persuasive writing skills to share their opinions about what their paintings looked like.

Science-
Students continue to soak up space facts.  This week we learned more about stars and how their light travels.  Next week we will focus on our very own star, the sun!
