Nonfiction Unit

First graders have started an exciting unit of study exploring nonfiction!  We will learn how nonfiction texts are differnent from fiction texts.  Learners will discover nonfiction features and how those features help the reader gain a better understand of the topic. Our first graders will create their own nonfiction feature reference book. We will finish this unit by writing our very own nonfiction book.  Each student will select a topic they find interesting to write about!

This week our features are:

Here are a few of our scholars searching for examples of a Close Up.  When they find and example they like, they document the page.  When we are finished, we will assemble the pages into a reference book.  Each child will create a unique book that they will be able to reference for future nonfiction work.

Amazing Author's Share

Thank you to all of our family and school staff that turned out to support our young authors.  I am so proud of their hard work. Students read 3 pieces of writing today.  They shared a personal narrative, a report about penguins, and a response to our read aloud, Mr. Popper's Penguins.  We enjoyed sharing our writing with you!
