Community Village
This week we are learning about different communities we are a part of. One of those communities is Richmond, Vermont. Students have been learning their role in the community and how others help in the community. We created a mural of helpers. Our helpers are hanging on a mural in our hallway. The mural shows Main Street in Richmond and all our helpers lined up along the street.

Community Journals
Today our class read On the Town, by Judith Casely. In the story the boy explores his community. Your child has brought home a journal with blank pages in it. When you need to run an errand or are out and about, take your child with you (notebook in hand). Your home can be one of the places. A more detailed list and directions are in your child's home/school folder. Below are samples of what other students have done in the past. Thank you for your support!

Sharing Our Shape Posters
First Graders have been learning all about shapes! They have been sorting and classifying shapes by their attributes. We played an amazing game of Guess My Rule. In this game students sort the shapes based on an attribute while another student has to guess how they sorted the shapes. Then they created Guess Our Secret Rule posters. Students then shared their posters with our class. They are posted outside our classroom if you you are brave enough to play Guess Our Secret Rule! Good Luck!

Skeleton Hiccups
Happy Hallowen! Our class read the story Skeleton Hiccups by Margery Cuyler. We wrote all about how we could help the skeleton get rid of his hiccups! Then we made these amazing skeletons! Check them out when you walk through the school.

Pattern Block Software
First Graders got a chance to explore pattern block software on our Chromebooks! Students created unique designs using basic shapes. Learners used hexagons, trapezoids, rhombus, and triangles to create animals, cars and even space ships! It was amazing to watch these digital learners dive in and explore the software!

Dairy in the Classroom
Thursday was our last visit with Miss Virginia. We decided for our last gathering we should make homemade ice cream! Miss Virginia brought all the fixings! We have learned so much about the farm economic cycle! We ended our last session with a fabulous Halloween story. Thank you Miss Virginia for teaching us so many things about farms.

What Can You Make? Exploring Geometry
First Graders are loving our new unit on geometry. We began the unit by looking at shapes and charting things we noticed. We compared different ways to fill designs, trying more and less pattern blocks. A highlight of our week was designing our own shapes. Students used combinations of 12, 18 and 25 blocks to create intricate designs. Here is some of their work.
