Growing Caterpillars!

We've only had 5 days of school, but look how much our caterpillars have grown! Did you know a caterillar's skin doesn't stretch? Ask your child what happens when the caterpillar's skin gets to tight!
Take a look at the picture from last week and compare it to this week! It's amazing! The other photo shows a skin one of our caterpillars left behind!

Last week:
Today:
This guy shed his skin!

First Grade Mathematicians

Our first graders decided to dive right into Math Workshop! Today we explored our math workbooks and a few math manipulatives we will be using this year! Today we used Base 10 blocks and Geo Blocks.

First Grade Scientists

On the second day of school our first graders jumped right into our new science unit on organisms! We are studying the life cycle of the monarch butterfly!

Today we learned that the monarch butterfly will lay an egg only on milkweed! We also learned that monarch caterpillars  only eat milkweed! The children colored a  monarch caterpillar for families to see what they look like. We also walked to the CHMS garden to gather milkweed for the caterpillars in our room!

First Day Fun

What an amazing first day!! We read the book First Day Jitters! In the story someone is a little nervous about starting school! Ask your child to tell you who had the jitters in the story!! Then we drew pictures of things that give us the jitters.
