Community Village

This week we are learning about different communities we are a part of.  One of those communities is Richmond, Vermont. Students have been learning their role in the community and how others help in the community. We created a mural of helpers. Our helpers are hanging on a mural in our hallway. The mural shows Main Street in Richmond and all our helpers lined up along the street.

Later this week we will continue to learn more about communities we are a part of. We will explore our school community, our classroom community, and our family community.

Community Journals

Today our class read On the Town, by Judith Casely. In the story the boy explores his community. Your child has brought home a journal with blank pages in it. When you need to run an errand or are out and about, take your child with you (notebook in hand). Your home can be one of the places. A more detailed list and directions are in your child's home/school folder. Below are samples of what other students have done in the past.  Thank you for your support!

Sharing Our Shape Posters

First Graders have been learning all about shapes!  They have been sorting and classifying shapes by their attributes.  We played an amazing game of Guess My Rule.  In this game students sort the shapes based on an attribute while another student has to guess how they sorted the shapes.  Then they created Guess Our Secret Rule posters.  Students then shared their posters with our class. They are posted outside our classroom if you you are brave enough to play Guess Our Secret Rule!  Good Luck!
